my questions are always for Kathy... in the latest IRSF newsletter, 2 of the 4 ladies mentioned in the Memorials were 29 and 31 years old. listed is they passed peacefully and one unexpectly in their sleep. holy shit this scares me!! I know I am not alone in this. How are y'all Moms of older girls dealing with this daily? AND OUR PARENTS OF OLDER RETT BOYS?? Becky Sue's (29) Mom
Hi Sharon! Sudden death, especially in sleep, has always been the single leading cause of death in Rett syndrome. It can occur at any age, but actually, older women are at less risk for this type of sudden death. There seems to be a peak between the ages of 8-14 when more sudden deaths occur. Older women seem to die more from pneumonia and other nutrition or health-related issues.
